This site showcases selected material from doctoral research currently being undertaken at Northumbria University entitled; 'Making Scenarios More Worthwhile'.

My interested in the subject of design storytelling with scenarios and storyboards began while working with enterprises in the high-technology sector in Canada. Throughout the nineties companies such as Nortel Networks and IBM Cognos were experimenting with scenario-based approaches to share ideas with stakeholders and to envision future products. In 2005 a client in a small startup in Ottawa contracted some storyboards, but could not disclose the stories because of IP issues. What resulted was a kit consisiting of a library of images, a storyboard template and a tutorial. The client create her own storyboards in-house. Over the course of a year in 2007/08, I developed the concept of a storyboard kit that anyone could use as a master of arts research project. The system was called workPlay and, but for the superb timing of the financial crisis, would have launched it as a commercial product. Instead I took comments made by professionals who were reviewing the project about the difficulties that designers face in telling stories, as the basis for a postgraduate research proposal.

A suite of game-like resources have been developed. More about these at; storienteer.info.
